Here are some tips to help you get the most out of Member Groups:

Putting a group's Name in it's own Admin List will allow anyone who joins that group to add new people.
A Group's Userlist or Adminlist can contain the name of another group, to allow anyone in that group the same priviledges.
As mentioned before, if the mg_status setting is on, a status name in any adminlist or userlist will give anyone of that status the same priviledges.
